  1. Ampulla nodule
    Duodenal nodule

Patient is confirmed as having metastatic malignant neoplasm of the lung who presented for an EGD due to iron deficient anemia.

The nodules were found and biopsied.

Im getting a little lost with determining what the appropriate diag codes would be for these nodules... (our first patient declared with them)..

    Anyone with thoughts?

    Thank you in advance!

  2. Perhaps these still fall under the category of 211.5 and 211.2? I know they are not polyps, but they are benign...

  3. This is a classical case of iron deficiency anemia due to chemotherapy (do confirm if chemo is provided). Use ICD-285.3 in the case when a patient is suffering from a cancer and is being treated with chemotherapy, which caused anemia (chemo drug side effect). Also add E933.1 (Drugs, medicinal and biological substances causing adverse effects in therapeutic use; antineoplastic and immunosuppressive drugs). Now the patient has undergone EGD and diagnosis are Ampulla nodule, Duodenal nodule so, use 211.5 and 211.2 only. The claim must also include metastatic malignant neoplasm of the lung (162.x)

  4. Unfortunately its not a classic case of iron-deficient anemia due to chemo... we did verify whether or not chemo was in the picture, so thankfully we dont need to worry about that....

I was aware of the lung cancer code requiring to be on the claim - but it will be an add-on (tertiary)....

Thank you so much Alex... between you and others, its awesome to have such an e-team.
