  1. In the past we have been using '88313' for copper stains. Should we be using '88318' instead? Iron stain is '88313'or can we use '88318' as well?

  2. The codes 88312 and 88313 are meant for Group I and II stains. For group II stain you can still use an Iron, copper, trichrome, etc. Also do note that if it is medically reasonable and necessary to perform the same stain on more than one specimen or more than one block of tissue from the same specimen, additional units of service may be reported for the additional specimen(s) or block(s). You should not report more than one unit of service for a stain performed on a single tissue block.
The code 88318 is a histochemistry services performed with basic pathology services to determine their chemical components. You can check the bundling issues between these codes before filling the CPT 88313 and 88318...etc.
