  1. which of these codes is NOT a component of COPD:
    491.0, 492.8, 466.0, 491.22? I am thinking 466.0 but am not positive?
    thanks

  2. All of the codes are components of COPD. The official guidelines under 491.22 indicate, "When acute bronchitis, 466.0, is documented with COPD, code 491.22 should be assigned. It is not necessary to also assign code 466.0. If a medical record documents acute bronchitis with COPD with acute exacerbation, only code 491.22 should be assigned. The acute bronchitis included in code 491.22 supersedes the acute exacerbation. If a medical record documents COPD with acute exacerbation without mention of acute bronchitis, only code 491.21 should be assigned."

Then under 496, the excludes note list all the codes you mention above.
