decompression is included in the verbiage of a 45378 - however, tube placement is not..
how do we account for a decompression tube placement? FYI: this is NOT stoma-related.
Thank you!

in other words - the tube itself... I know the placement is included in the colonoscopy code.... is there a tube-code we should be using?

Not sure exactly what type of "decompression tube placement" you are looking for. Is it placed via endoscopic method? Or by open procedure? And at which location of intestine - smaill or large? If it's open procedure and decomp. tube placed in small intestine, we have two codes - 44300 & 44021. But you said that it is not Stoma-related, so we can remove the code 44300. But I never came across any colonoscopy Px through which a decompression tube is placed inside the colon.

Placement of tube is included with the Colonoscopy CPT code (45378). If you bill the tube placement with an unlisted endoscopy code, then it won't get paid from the insurance. There are circumstances that it may get paid with an unlisted code but you need to inquire with you service provide.
