New 539 family offers more choices.

Several surgical additions to diagnoses in ICD-9 2012 could come in handy for your anesthesia coding. A few codes were incorrectly listed in Anesthesia Coding Alert Vol. 13, No. 9. The corrected code families of interest include:

• Infection or complications due to gastric band or bariatric procedures (539.01-539.89)
• Acute or chronic respiration failure, in normal circumstances or following trauma and surgery (518.51, 518.52, 518.53).
