There has been a lot of changes in the diagnostic and procedural coding of sleep studies in last decade. Polysomnography and Sleep Studies has been on the OIGs list since 2007. This scrutiny could be due to the 350% increase in Medicare payments from 2001 - 2009. The expansion of sleep disorder's diagnostic codes expanded and the procedure codes changed as the variables of sleep testing did.
