


Physicians can perform prostate biopsies with or without the presence of a radiologist and in both facility and nonfacility settings. In addition, doctors almost always perform needle biopsies of the prostate (55700 and 55706) under ultrasonic guidance for needle placement (76942), and frequently do them in addition to transrectal echography (76872).
Physicians rarely perform the more invasive biopsy procedure (55705).
